Polk City Chiropractor: Dr. JoAnn Tully
I just wish I had known then what I know now.
I thought that you had to be in a major car accident or be in severe pain to see a Chiropractor, let alone that I grew up in a family that viewed Chiropractors as "quacks."
By my early-twenties, I was experiencing headaches, neck pain and upper back pain. I just learned to live with the discomfort. Exercise and massage therapy provided some relief, but the nagging pain was always there.
Finally, when I was 31, and within 2 weeks of delivering my daughter, my midwife referred me to a Chiropractor for my low back pain. Wow! I couldn't believe it! All of those years of nagging pain soon melted away. I had found my calling!
Education
While my children were still very young, I returned to school part-time to complete the science pre-requisites that I would need in order to enroll in Chiropractic school. I already had a BS degree from Iowa State University with a major in finance and an MBA from Drake University.
Then in 2002, I began my classes at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in October 2005, and opened my practice in Polk City in December 2005.
I have completed post graduate studies in Pediatric Chiropractic Care, Extremity Adjusting Techniques, and Chiropractic Biophysics. I became certified in Acupuncture in January 2009.
Practice Philosophy
At Big Creek Family Chiropractic, we love a challenge! We are committed to working with our patients to restore and maintain their good health and well-being. Everything will be explained in advance and we strive to provide excellent health care for everyone who walks through our door.
About Me
I have lived in Polk City since 1993, and have 2 active & fun teenagers, Hunter and Abbey. I am married to Tom Tully, who makes me light up when he enters the room!
I receive Chiropractic care myself once per week. I'm very tuned into my body and no longer tolerate not feeling my best. And, because I didn't find Chiropractic until later in life, I have old injuries in my spine which benefit from regular chiropractic care. I workout on a regular basis and try to eat healthy food, but I admit that I am only human!
My approach to vaccinations, antibiotics, over-the-counter pain relievers, etc, is to research what is going on in the body first. Pain and dysfunction are your body's warning signals that something is wrong and covering up the pain or symptoms only prolongs recovery.
